I promise to get some recent photos but the three pheasants I hatched in the incubator with a bunch of chicks have been doing great. They hang with their young chicken and turkey poult friends and have been free ranging with them for a month now. They have no issues with my dog or cat nor myself. The cat hangs out with my group of juvenile birds and they often follow her around my small field while she is hunting (to her dismay sometimes). My hook bill ducks have also joined this group.

The melanistic male pheasant is now roosting high in the trees with some of the chicks. Not sure yet on the other two but I think they are females. They still go inside the chicken tractor for the night. The male flies down in the morning when I take pellets and bread out and join the gang in their morning feeding frenzy. They are really turning out to be beautiful birds.

Since they are semi tame I think they will survive the winter. The chicken tractor will be available to them for shelter if they choose to use it. They also have access to the main poultry yard and will follow me up there on the weekends. My area gets visciously deep snow and cold but I think as long as these pheasants are smart enough to get food from me they will be fine.

So far my only regret was so few of the eggs hatched, I love these little pheasants, they have a lot of character.
