If I let my chickens out of their run will they run away? I'd like to let them run around in our yard but we don't have a fence, we live in the country. And Id hate to let them out and have them run off as soon as I let them out. We'd definitely need to lock our dogs up. I'm just not sure what would happen if they got out.

I live in the country and my chickens are free range. They have room to roam, and don't generally go too terribly far. How long have they been in their coop and run? After a week or so, they figure the coop is home and will generally return to roost at night.

They have been out for several months. We tried it today with a temporary fence and they did pretty good. My neighbors have chickens so I worried the rooster would take off to their house bUT he was the most well behaved of all of them. We had one runner and she got on top the run netting and didn't want to come down... she was always escaping the brooder box when she was a chick so I guess I should haveexpected that
