Free range

I have a variety of different chickens. Standard and bantam. Cochins, silkies, Japanese bantam, old English, maran, etc. Most of my birds has their flock established. My questions is while a young flock stay and breed together rather than breaking off and joining other flocks

Do you have them free range or roost together?

It's possible they might merge flocks.. Does each flock have a rooster?

Each flock does have a rooster. Some have more than one. All my birds are free range and I have a huge roosting area that everyone uses

If the older ones are keeping distinct flocks, the younger ones might follow suit. I'm not sure.

Mine always tend to stay with their age mates or brooder mates, making little sub flocks within the larger flock. Sometimes a pullet catches the head rooster's eye and he promotes her to his harem.

As of now the flocks are separate. But I'm not sure if it'll stay that way if the younger rooster of the young flock gets over turned by a older rooster from another flock
