Hi I have 2 pekin ducks and 2 Khaki Campbell ducks They are about 3 and four months old and basically full grown. I was wondering how you guys felt about letting them loose and run around the yard full time. Are they somewhat predator proof? Will they find their own food? Should I lock them up at night? Will they wander far? I currently have them in the chicken coop/run but they are triple the size of the chicks as they grow fast. Im just exploring my options lol......

I let mine free range. We are in a residential area and don't have any predators. We have a fenced yard and they usually stay in our shed at night just because that's where they feel comfortable

I have 4 Pekins about 6 weeks. They stay out with me, or close by in the yard during the day/early evening. They stay pretty close to the patio where I have a small pond already. I don't leave them alone for long periods just in case. I keep their run open and they know to go there for food. As far as foraging mine seem a bit lazy or maybe they've become spoiled. They do get locked up in a pen with a house inside. All trenched and predictor proofed. Hope this helps :)

Yeah I live in Bradford county and its rural here and lots of predators haha..... I just feel bad every time I let them out and then put them back up...... I don't want to (feed the dogs) haha.... I love my ducks but then again I wish they could free range and have a bigger happier life.....

Mine spend their days keeping my yard free of bugs. We live in FL and I've even seen them go for lizards. They'll eat anything that moves lol.
