Our 17 baby chicks turned 2 weeks old today.... It was 91 degrees, so we let them out in the backyard for about 90 minutes. They LOVED it! Getting them back in the brooder in the garage was a chore. I started sprinkling Chick Grit on their Chick Starter (similar to how you would season your food w/ salt & pepper) 2 days ago in order to start getting them ready for "real food." They played, scratched and took "dust baths" under our back deck. While they were out playing (under the constant supervision of my 12 year-old son), I cleaned out their brooder. When we brought them back in, they were totally worn out and have been sleeping in a pile for a couple hours now! (I think they also appreciated the freshly cleaned living quarters!) Plus, they look so clean and healthy -- dust baths are an amazing thing! They are "Happy, Happy, Happy!" I'm sure they can't wait to go out again tomorrow...
