Free Ranging does not mean no fences

Thanks! Me too! I was googling pictures of chickens, looking for something cute to use, and when I saw that one I about fell off the bed! Had to have it.

I saw that pic the other day in thread I started titled: My Chickens Need Pants. I only started the topic to see if chicken clothing really existed, and sure enough it does!

Hi all! I just wanted to put my 2 sense in.. My birds have a fenced in area.. but i open it, since they very quickly removed all the grass in that certain area. *KNOCK ON WOOD* I have had no problems.. Only at night, which now my chicken house is totally predator proof. They stay around the area and I usually find them chilling in the shade in a tree of around the tree. I guess I am lucky nothing has bothered them.. but since i had the guys pee all over the boundaries.. Nothing has gone near the the area.. so i guess the human pee works.. LOL.. I tell my husband when he's gotta go.. OUT SIDE!! He just looks at me weird and walks over to another area that hasn't been sprayed yet.. LOL...

Oh yea, wiki can have lots of misinformation. It is good for quick reference but to get real definitions for stuff, you have to cross reference things to make sure it is right.

I remember our cohort was joking about changing the stuff on wiki just before the cohort under us were going to take their physiology and anatomy exams because everyone relies on it so much.

I consider my flock to be free-range. They have the run of my lot...it is bounded on 3 sides by industrial chain-link and barbed wire. I'm lucky enough to be in town with my only neighbors being two abandoned knitting mill parking lots. They have about an acre to stroll around in. Any birds not enclosed in a coop and/or limited-size run should be considered free-range. I guess the question is what is the definition of a run? Do I have a 1 acre run?
Whatever you call it, they are a happy bunch of pullets...

There seems to be no such thing as an argument-free topic when it comes to free ranging. People either argue about weither or not your chickens should free range and then if you do free range people argue and say that they don't consider your chickens "free range" because they may have some type of boundary. WHATEVER!!!

I chose not to argue about my chickens lifestyles anymore.

I just say my birds are happy and healthy and "RANGE FREELY" in a 40'x50' chicken yard. PERIOD.

Edited to add: There are people on this forum that just like to argue. Just look at all the recently locked topics and you see the same people on each one just arguing away. I just don't pay attention to these people because half the time they're not even making any since in their arguments, they're just arguing to be arguing! For every 1 person that wants to argue there are 100 more that want to help on this forum. Ignore the 1.

I need to someone to come educate my predators. I pee by my chicken house and it doesn't stop them. Does that say something about my manhood??????
