Just started free ranging my 19 week hens only about 1 hour a day while I stand by and monitor. My girls found a patch of these berries and ate everything they could get their beak on. They love them. Does anyone know what they are and if it is ok for girls to eat.

Thanks for any advice.

I don't personally recognize them immediately, perhaps a picture of the leaves, they could be elderberry. I find chickens only eat what is safe them, as most poisonous stuff doesn't taste good.

Agreed. All girls were present and alive this morning when I checked on them. I suspect it is ok since they loved the berries so much. I will check them again when I get home.

i think some of the foods will not cause any problem right away if it was a small amount

but the same amount over time a period of time..

personally it's hard to track what your chickens will eat when they are free ranging... but from what i noticed.. they will not willingly eat things they don't like..

i found out chickens do not like basil :)
