Free Rare Chick from McMurray's?

Actually, partridge cochin chicks look differently than your mystery chick. As I mentioned(I believe in your other post), it appears to be a half breed/designer chick. Partridge Rock/Brahma. Cochin chicks have MUCH more feathering on their feet and they are much more patterned. The coloration/look of your mystery chick is identical to that of the partridge rock chick... the only thing different is the slight feathering of it's feet.

Hate to be so technical, but I do have to be honest in my observations.

It will be interesting to see how he actually turns out. It doesn't matter to me as long as he is gentle and calm. He is already showing those traits so I am pleased so far.

We got a silver Lakenvelder cockerel. He is good with the pullets but comes after me on a daily basis. Fortunately he isn't that big and now I have a Pyr puppy following me around while I am outside, so he is beginning to think twice before skittering up behind me. I'm just glad he wasn't a Polish, I really didn't want one of those. They also threw in a free Black Star pullet and an EE cockerel.

Do they automatically sent a free rare chick when you order 25. I ordered 20 BRs and five Amercaunas ( which will probley be EEs) They are due to be here Around the 15 of march. I hope it quits snowing by then. We have got about a foot today. I plan on having them in the house for the first few weeks so I can watch them more. Then will move them out to the shed.

I think you can decline the exotic chick when you order, but chances are there will be at least a couple extra "packing peanuts" for warmth. We got ours in early July and we live in hot, humid SC and we got three extras, including the rare chick.

Oh, I WANT the extra rare chick! I'm just trying to calculate the odds as to what breed it will be. Looks like it's the season for rare Polish chicks. Maybe it's fate. My MIL found out today she's going to Eastern Europe, so of course we have to get a Polish rare chick!

A few years back we ordered a bunch of dual purpose birds and they sent us a big combed Mediterranean as the rare chick. Rather exotic. It was a black Blue Andalusian rooster. He was surely odd man out being much more flightly. He was beautiful and graceful, but he had a little bit of a difficult time making friends because all the other chickens knew he was different. Around 7 weeks he escaped the brooding shed and spent a few days and nights on his own in the trees. He could fly so well that I couldn't catch him and couldn't find him after dark. After that he took up a regular job as an escape artist every time I went into the chicken shed. Very funny. He often slithered out.

If I were to order from them again, I wouldn't get the rare chick. Chances are it wouldn't fit in with what we would order.

Do they send extras of the breeds you order if you refuse the rare chick? Many hatcheries send an extra or two of the breeds you actually order.
