FREE TO GOOD HOME plus shipping: male button quail ($35 S&H or P/U)

I'm offering these for price of shipping to pet homes only!! This means you won't eat them (pointless), use them for dog training (cruel), or set them free (also cruel). I have no extra females. Button quail should be kept in single-pair groups, though they can often be kept in same-sexed pairs. They need a diet high in protein with free choice seed and fresh water. Buttons are very good 'cage cleaners' for other birds such as doves, cockatiels, parakeets, and etc. Buttons are ground-dwellers so they clean up seed spilled by their flying pen-mates.

Currently I have 21 males and only 4 females. 4 of the adult males are ones I'm keeping, the other 5 are too young to ship (4 weeks old).

My available males are:

Buttons are very territorial, so if you would like more than one (and plan on housing them together) please contact me to see which ones are currently housed together to reduce the risk of fighting.

Shipping is by USPS express mail based on your zip code plus the cost of the box ($4). For simplicity's sake, I ask a flat fee of $35 for shipping, then once the birds are shipped I'll refund any excess if applicable.

You'll notice that some of them have bald heads and/or backs, this is because they are not being housed properly due to lack of space. The only ones without baldness is the pen of all males.

The first pic (cage) has only 2 'extra' boys, the wild and the silver redbreast.

The second pic (cage) has 3 extra boys, the darth vader, redbreast, and a cinnamon blue face.

The 3rd pic (cage) is all boys, there are 5 in that cage.

The last pic has 3 available males, the golden pearl and the 2 cinnamon blue face.

There is one in the 3rd pic (cage) that is picked on a bit by the others, so if you wanted those I could keep the one that keeps getting picked on since I've still not decided who #4 keeper boy is

That would leave the 2 cinnamon bluefaces, the cinnamon redbreast, and the golden pearl (the one in the back right is the one they pick on

I don't know. I think I'm going to have to let you decide. (If it helps, I have more than one empty cage. I knew I should have gotten rid of those cages, I knew I would just fill them up......!)

Just to double check, I feed the coturnix that I have unmedicated chick starter, twice a week I mix in ground kitten food. Every so often, I give them the wild bird mix as a treat and I hard boil eggs for all my birds once or twice a week. Does that sound ok to you, or should I be doing something different? Oh yeah, just for fun, I've been known to give the quail fresh greens, I think they play in them more than eat them, but I figure I'll give them the option. Any other suggestions? I want everyone healthy and happy.

They probably pick the seeds off more than anything, but they do eat it.

Buttons eat basically the same thing that coturnix do, but I've recently been told that at least 40% of their diet should be seeds. I feed mine a 20% flock raiser feed, then give them millet sprays or parakeet seed for a treat. So apparently this isn't right

I was told the flock raiser is fine, but they'd do better with finch seed, at least a 40/60 mix (40 being the seed), but 50/50 is better. They love boiled eggs and meal worms, I raise my own meal worms for them. Obviously they'd need grit since they are eating seeds a lot.

You could probably put them together with ones they aren't used to, but be prepared to separate them if they start fighting. I've mixed and matched them before with no problems, but you never know.

The silver redbreast looks like the one on the right in the first pic, except that his breast and belly are pink

How many did you want? I figure I need to charge $35 for shipping, then refund any excess. Shipping is a bit more than I planned on! You are in Zone 5, so shipping alone is $31.95

ETA: But that price (31.95) is for 3 pounds, and I"m not sure that's how much it will weigh. It's just a guesstimate

Okay, after consulting with a friend of mine, I think I should do what she does as far as shipping goes. She charges $35 for shipping and box, then refunds any that is left over (if applicable). So any amount of these you can figure $35 for shipping. I don't know for sure that it would cost that much, but it seems like that's pretty close unless the receiver is fairly close to where I am.

These are the rates for Express shipping to all 8 zones. 3 pounds should cover up to 6 buttons (as many as can fit in the small box), 1 button would be the 1 pound price. If you would like to check for yourself, look up the zone from my zip (427).

The box costs $4, so figure that in as well.

Obviously, the weight of the package depends on how many birds are in it, though they don't weigh hardly anything. But I can't weigh them in the box until I ship, I wouldn't want to stress them out more than necessary. I will send you a copy of the post office receipt when I ship the birds, and issue a partial refund for the shipping if applicable.

A word of advice, make sure to open the box either inside their cage or in a closed room (bathroom with the toilet lid and door closed) so they don't get loose and hide in your house somewhere
