I am so sorry for your loss. He was a free spirit....I am hate you had to put him down but sometimes that is the best thing for both the owner and the pet. He would have been so sad if he could not get out and wander around......I hope you will be together again someday.....
Thanks for the posts. It's a little sad, knowing that I'll never pet him, again, with my bare foot, as he lays on the kitchen floor, saying,"Hey, there, Dummy Dog."
So sorry you lost a special friend like that . . . but what a gift to have had such a running buddy in your life. Hope you can remember him with gratitude instead of sorrow.
I recently had to have a well loved cat put down due to his having only one kidney, and it being seriously enlarged and him being in lots of pain... well about 7 weeks after that, someone drove down our dead end road, then came back out, and flung a tiny little kitten out the window, and took off fast.
... yeah, I now have a new friend, when I hadn't planned on it at all, but I'm really glad I've got him now. I'm not saying you should rush right out and look for another running buddy, but in time, it could be a really good thing.
It sounds like you've got a great yard for a dog, and you loved having Bubba with you. Of course, maybe a -little- less a knucklehead so he stays in the yard better, and you can have another great pal.
Like I said, maybe in time.
after all, as the quote goes, "Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole."
We've never had anything other than GSDs. Our present one is getting close to 11 years old. They always take a piece of your heart when they go, but they leave you theirs.
I had a Belgium Shepard growing up named Max. He took the back pocket off a teenager that jumped our fence looking for pot plants (it was the neighbors that had the plants in their yard). Sorry for your loss but thanks for bringing up memories of my Max.
