Just for added info. I have seen an article about breeding strategy. While not specific to chickens it is the same process with all livestock. It explains the terminal three way and four way hybridizing process which is used to produce commercial broilers. It is interesting if anyone wants to understand why and how they do it.

So, I want a fast-growing, non-"Frankenstein" bird: is there a good chicken I can cross with Freedom Rangers to breed close to Rangers' growth rate?

If anyone has personal experience with such crosses, or even Ranger/Ranger crosses, I'd like to know, as I've heard that Freedom Rangers don't breed true.

I am crossing freedom ranger hens with Bresse roosters.
