Freeing Donald Duck Video (Canada Goose is growing up)

Quote:
She's very tame, having been raised in the house with tons of attention. She loves to eat grass out of our hands. She's been a good influence on the grey goose, who was Donald's adoptive Mom. She's happy to finally have a goose buddy.

We love our Canada goose. I already posted a video about her babyhood.

He is a Khaki Campbell drake and the ones who went after him (or vise versa) were males as well. In the pecking order the drakes there will mate him to make sure he knows his place. If you were near me, I would have taken him in.
Khaki Campbells are a domestic breed of duck. I do hope someone feeds him. Domestic ducks are not bred to be independent and have few survival skills. They don't have sustained flight and they are prime pickings for predators. Hopefully that pond is free of predators and if he gets fed, I hope it is good feed that will nourish him.

Will you be running food out to him? Will he have shelter in winter?

I think Terrie knows what type of duck he was. I think she said he was a Khaki Campbell, I could be wrong. They are a domestic breed, so they cannot migrate with wild ducks. So Donald may need you to go pick him up and find him a home in captivity. It may be best for him.

He is a beautiful duck! I can see how he did well at the shows for you.

Edited to add: ** I was writing while Terrie posted. So I didn't get to read her post before writing mine.

I knew some folks would disapprove, but my point of view is that Donald will find more happiness in that pond, even though there are more risks. He was lonely and isolated, a virtual prisoner. He is 2 1/2 years old, his mother Goose is 3 1/2 yrs. She preceded him by one season.

So you won't be feeding him?

Where did you release him? Many states have waterfowl rescue that make it their life's work to rescue domestic waterfowl turned out. They would go get him and find him a good, non-duck-eating home and most likely with some ladies!

I would have taken him and bought him some ladies. LOL Such a pretty duck.

I advertised and only got one response, and they seemingly wanted a totally tame duck. He was a normal pet duck and didn't like to be petted.

I live in Washington State.

For anyone interested, my daughters and I stopped by the pond and checked up on Donald. He's doing great! He's swimming with a little group and interacting really well with them. He looked so cute!
