Freeloading chickens (31 weeks) , finally got our first egg!!

AT last! I was starting to think they were never gonna lay. I gave them the ultimatum last sunday, a week to start laying or they will be pies (I also started giving the cayenne pepper every other day).

Last sunday I noticed the first chicken being "clingy" to me a squatting, since then most of them have started doing the same. This morning they are all very vocal and hanging aroung the coop more than usual (they free range).

can't wait for more eggs.

It sounds like yours matured just in time for winter. Many chickens will hold off on starting to lay until spring if they don't start before winter. Now that they've started, you should be good to go!
