Freezer camp for the young Roosters

I've read somewhere (I'm sure it was on BYC) that silkies are a delicacy in oriental cooking? I wish I remembered more. It could have been on a hatchery site that I saw it. My husband and I were thinking that it seems like a lot of work to butcher such small birds (I've seen standard size silkie pictures but haven't found any hatcheries that sell them) but then he's hunted quail/dove and even squirrel before.

The two we butchered are silkie mix, their mother is a Black Australorp so they were a bit bigger, we haven't eaten those two yet

...We have eaten two of the chickens, the old hen made an excellent Chicken and Homemade noodle dish and the other I slow cooked in the oven and then Bbq it... yummy on both... The meat of the two silkie crosses is a dark grey, not true black but still... Although some might find it a delicacy its a bit off putting to me, I plan to slow roast it then remove the meat from the bones and then make enchilada's ... I also plan to hide that meat very well under a lot of sauce

One thing I noticed is that the bones on these chickens are much more developed, I have never had home grown chicken before this and was not used to having to do more than break the breast in half by sheer force with the store bought chicken, these took sheer force and a butcher knife lol
