we got 40 cornishX done today. they were 8 weeks 2 days, we had to wait 2 weeks longer than last year as we are using a new feed. we have basicly the same weights tho!!
Hens averaged 5.43 lbs
roosters averaged 8.21 lbs
those are dressed weights
again we skinned them all, it was just easier.
they are restin some icy brine now, we will package them tomorrow.
we are ordering 50 more monday
the feed we are now using for them is specially chopped no medications and its not proscessed. its basicly, alfalfa hay chopped finely, cchopped oats , wheat and flax. it may have taken 2 weeks longer, BUT we still saved 200 bucks on feed. also they didnt smell as bad butchering them or growing up. we are paying 15 bucks per 100 lbs of feed. not bad considering its 16 for purinas flock raiser, and thats only 50 lbs.
i hope to have a weekly thread for our next batch!!
