Freezer preference

I dislike my chest freezer for the organization reasons everyone's mentioned above, plus it's hard on my back leaning down in there. I'm not even over 50 yet! I also don't like that if I put anything liquid in there...soup, etc, I have to fuss around in order to keep the containers upright so they don't leak before they freeze.

Can't wait until we get an upright, but they are more expensive. Meanwhile, I will try some of the suggestions about putting some kind of crates in there. I haven't had any luck with bags...they all just get moved around, things slide out.

I will admit that when we get the upright, we probably will keep the chest too, just for meat.

BCC We do the same thing! Milk crates that is. We have two crates stacked (we have a smaller chest) and we put new things we buy in the bottom milk crate, and bring the "older" stuff to the top, any overflow gets shoved into the upstairs freezer! It's a great system, and I rotate it anytime I buy new meat that goes in the freezer. Since I keep on top of rotating it, we never are eating anything over 6 months old. I can see how it gets out of hand if not "dug" through once in awhile though.

However I would think chest freezer is best "bang for your buck" as far as space goes. If it's for a business, I would think putting a wipe board on the top of the lid, and keeping an inventory would stop "oops sold the last one" from happening.

Anthony) I don't know how to answer you question, but if you're parting them up you can fit them a looot easier, but if keeping them whole I think freezing them up on their "bums" would let you pack them tighter in a chest...upright i'm not sure.
