Normally it doesn’t get lower than 30s or high 20s where I live but it’s going to be 0. I’m worried my chickens will be too cold. Their coop is thin plywood but no insulation. Anything thoughts. They get corn and we do the deep litter method. And we have 8 hens.
Normally I don’t care and have owned them for years but am worried about this

They should be okay. 0 isn't all that cold, and except for the risk of frostbite on the comb tips they should make it through it fine. They will sit close together to share body heat. Make sure you bedding is thick, and they have access to water.

4:30 MST it started here about 50 miles south of Sant Fe, 38 degrees but feels 31 degrees. The wind is 18 MPH from the south, probably going get some snow in the horse stalls, Dang!:he

Thanks! I knew they wouldn’t die or anything but it’s nice to hear others thoughts! ❄️
It's good to keep an eye on them during cold spells. Watch for any lethargy that may signal hypothermia. It happens occasionally, and sometimes a chicken needs a quick warm up. Colder temps can sometimes show a sick bird that has been good at hiding it. As long as they are moving, scratching, eating and drinking they generally are fine.

I spread out a bale of hay so my chickens can huddle and stay warm. Their coop has a thick layer of wood pellets down on the floor so they'll be just fine. Its important to block the wind off them folks!
