Sandhills they nest behind the house here in the summer. Don't mess with their nest they get mean....

They are quite the thing here. People come from all over the country to watch them on the Platte.

We get a ton of them up here in the summer...you can see then out in the fields...I was suprised to find out you can hunt them in some states....not here though.

I found one, Carolinahen. She's close and shows but is not raising now. I was trying to find good chicks close to raise with mine and the ones I'm getting from Flock.

Don't think there's any nests around here, they are just here for the winter. Usually they don't come in the yard, but I had the dogs in the house this morning.

We get lots of photographers and birders here too. We get a ton of Sandhills hanging out in the old apple orchard down the street next to the river, but usually have to walk around the neighbors house to see them. Was really surprised to see them in the yard today.

yeah I'm sure that they are just over wintering....they wouldn't nest up till spring....they are cool birds though.
