It's just got the same type of color leakage a sex link would get... not a sex link per se, just leakage...

two copies of the gene give heavy leg feathering. One copy gives light leg feathering. No copies give none. So 1/4 of your chicks should be feather legged if the roo has one copy, half if he has two copies and the hen has none.

Conversely, if he has one copy, some of those chicks could hatch clean legged and still be his.

Anything else in a BCM that would be a distinguishing factor? Color of feet? Any sign of black on the shanks or feet should show BCM. Possibly beak color as well.

That's what I was worried about. The problem is the hen is a Lavender Wyandotte with black legs and black in the beak. She does have a rose comb. So the rose comb should be dominant over the strait comb on the Marans 100% of the time right?

Oh, that makes sense. I'm really interested in how she'll look as she gets older--each molt, she's gotten more red.

NM on the rose comb. They will be rose comb from the hen in theory regardless of the father. There is a chance that she's Rr+ so if the chick has a strait comb I know it's not the offspring of the SLW for sure.

I really like having it around. Sounds like you already have an antibiotic though. I would isolate if I were you. I ignored an issue like that once and lightly mediated. Next thing I knew young birds were dropping left and right and the adults almost died.

Oh and Bert, I've been meaning to tell you you've got it all wrong. Lets say I'm going to graft a tree, first I need a rootstock I can either buy one or grow one out, if I grow one thats one or two years maybe longer before I can graft it if I buy one and graft it that year (Assuming the graft takes) I have to wait 2 years for the tree to settle in and the graft to mature before I get fruit, plus the scion may take a few more years till its mature enough to fruit so at best thats 4 or 5 years probably longer before I get fruit from that tree. I could grow hundreds of new tree varieties in that time. Most trees at garden centers are already 2 or 3 years old plus the 3 year wait after you buy them.

A second limon mandarina seed sprouted. I'd much rather have 2 than one. Three seeds still in jiffy pots, hoping they will sprout too...
