French frogs

So are you planning on separating your Calls into color pens or breeding groups for the future?  What are you guys planning on doing with them all?

Just curious - it seems like you have a great batch of little ducks.

Yep, gonna separate for certain colors/patterns... and probably a mixed flock too...

Right now we're growing them out enough to evaluate... picking the best to continue with... we've actually just been discussing cutting back on our chicken breeds... ducks may be messier to brood, but once feathered they are much easier to care for and maintain... plus we are really liking their personalities...

That's really cool. What are your favorite chicken breeds so far - the ones definitely on the "keep list"? Just asking because I'm not sure I want to actually breed anything besides the Orloffs for now, and keep random layers for colored eggs.

Just peeked into the brooder - and a bunch of long necked chicks looked back at me. Those silly giraffes better not be all boys.........

Welcome... :hugs

Sorry for typos... little tired here, lol...

I'm tired too.

Hands down, Araucanas... but they've been my unicorn trying to improve what I started with towards SOP... Am's will stay, of course... and my Ohiki... other than that, I've become very ambivalent about...

And OH managed to get a special project going, so I told him cuts need to be made... he pays the feed bill, but the work is all me... and I'm just too tired anymore... don't want to lose my appreciation for them in the process...

So, the Sulmtalers are definitely going, Marans are up on the block now, and if the Legbars fertility keeps being low they will go as well...

If you really like the Orloffs, then I would suggest sticking with just them and having colorful layer flock... working on a breed takes so much time, space, breeding and culling that going with multiples can just end up a mess... jmo though...

In hindsight, I really wish we had just stuck with one before we got the Calls...
