This is Frenchie.... I am dying to know.. Pullet or Roo.... I got her from a local woman who said she is a French Blue Wheaten Maran... not sure if she/he is going to have the blue yet. When I got her she was 1 week old with pale wing feathers, a miniscule comb and such a spunky sweet personality. At this time her feathers are darker then I thought they would be.... She also stands very tall and had upright long legs. Still a very tiny comb but she is still spunky and fun. She is a little over 3 weeks at this time. I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thanks for your help!!! These are the first chickens I have ever had and they are so much fun!!! 1 weeks old

The same bird- 3 weeks old

If it looks like her comb has 3 little rows, then she may be a he. Her legs look big which could mean she's a he.

I remember when Mable was little...I saw little hints that she may be a he. Sure enough she crowed one day and now it's Mister Mable if you please....or just Mister.

Thank you very much to those of you who replied! So in one week my Frenchie has grown and changed ALOT! Holy Cow! All of the new feathers coming in are shades of very light brown to moderate brown, I can't find a new black feather anywhere. Her legs are still huge but her comb is still very tiny, I do not think she has 3 rows. She is acting like my other hen that is 2 weeks older then she is. Frenchie has calmed down and like to hang out perched on my leg or shoulder and chill out. I don't know what to make of this.... again any help is always greatly appreciated. Can you tell this is the first time I have had chickens in my life?! I'm now oddly in love with these babies! THank you very much! - Annie

I have a Wheaten French Marans (she's a new mom!), along with a couple other varieties....I think Frenchie is a pullet, her breast is lighter than the typical male wheaten variety, and her comb isn't showing any pink/red....She's very cute!

My Marans are good layers, you'll like her.... Her color will change as she grows, probably lighten up a bit....
