Fresh perspective on camouflage for free-ranging chickens

It actually started before the grass seed but the grass seed has been keeping them in that open space longer than I like. Why they risk crossing the open space in the first place is what I am not quite sure about. Looks like the same weeds to me but I am not a chicken. Maybe it’s a bug thing in which case I applaud their efforts.

You think they’ll leave me some grass seed!? It would be nice not to have a swath of weeds there next spring

This is very interesting! It has always seemed to me, in my area, that white, or mostly white, are the first picked off ( especially Amberlinks or Light Brahmas). Then it's the lighter, solid color browns and golds, like the buff Orpington or Wellsummers). Best in my area seem to be the speckled or mottled colors like Speckled Sussex. I once had a Swedish Flower that was taken but she had an abnormal amount of white on her. So sad...of course she was my favorite! Backgrounds such as solid grass versus areas that are woodsy make a difference too. When you are doing the filter, which animal is it for? I would assume a hawk may see differently than a fox?

My son is color blind and we have been having many interesting conversations about it similar to this. Your note about the program seeming to add in blue for instance, apparently according to my son its actually accurate! Upon investing we discovered that for those of us with tricolor vision blue is actually hidden in far more colors than you would know. When you strip away the red and green, or anything that has those, the blues and yellows that we couldn't see because they were overwhelmed by other hues start to take presidence. He once pointed to some wine red iridedcent flowers and said "WOW, Those dark blue flowers have such bright yellow stems! I love them!" And left me totally confused for a minute, he also ADORES sunflowers, because many yellow flowers (like the daffodils I tried to grow for him) have too much green tint, and end up looking muddy, but the sunflowers we grew had more pure yellow.

My colorblind son approves of this program, he says the pictures come pit just a bit darker overall, but others than that look the same.
