Freshly hatched chick with prolapse??

Stupid question but are you sure it's the chick''s vent and not its navel?

Wow, not a stupid question because yes you're right! Now I feel stupid! So it's vent is fine..but the navel not so much! What does that mean? And the little guy is still going crazy with the chirping.

After they hatch they sometimes have a little stump that used to connect to the egg membranes. It will shrivel and fall off. Unless there is a visible hole into the abdominal cavity, or it is still bleeding or there is sign of infection (pus or swelling) I would just leave it alone.

Don't feel stupid, their navels are actually really close to their butts! And their vents when very young are so tiny they can be hard to see among the fuzz.

Just read your edited post that says the navel is swollen. How freshly hatched is the chick? Sometimes they have quite distended bellies when they have only just finished absorbing the yolk.
