Can you put a store bought egg from your fridge (after it hits room temperature) in the next box to encourage hens to lay their first egg? I won't leave it in for more than 1-2 days, would that be okay?

I am getting sooo impatient waiting.....it's killing me....... ;-)

Probably a better choice than a frig. egg would be golf balls or plastic easter eggs. Can't get broken like a real egg can.

I don't know about using it for the first egg...but when ours tend to hide theirs we hard boil one, mark it with a big X and put it in the nest box. Won't get messy when it breaks.

When we put plastic eggs in...they rolled them out!
