Fried green tomatoes anyone

Fried Green Tomatoes--a hallowed gastronomic Southern delight!
I pick green, not pink, not slightly coloring, but GREEN tomatoes and hustle them in the house before a passing stranger sees what I have in my grubby paws and levels a 45 on me to steal my treasures. In the house--SAFE! Then I slice them very thin on my trusty mandolin slicer I got at Walmart for the bargain price of $12. As I slice them, I drop them in a bowl of ice cold water until all are sliced. I dredge them through stone ground whole corn, cornmeal. I place them on a plate until all the slices are covered in cornmeal. Then I fry them in an iron skillet in hot oil on HIGH. (true southerners only recognize 2 settings on a stove burner, OFF and HIGH) I fry them good and brown and crispy. We salt them and eat them all. Any other seasonings would get in the way.

I think FGT would be excellent in Chili,,and since we have had temps in the 30's here at night this week,,it's time for a big pot to be made. But for FGT to get that superb flavor they need to be fried. If already fried and put in chili they would turn to mush.I'm afriad if I cut them into 3/4" cubes they wouldn't taste good.Ever experiment and cook a slice of FGT on the weber gas or charcoal grill? Tatses NASSTY!!!
