Friend of the family chickens

A friend of my families had/has chickens that have some red butts and wants to know if he should worry about mites? These are the roosters we had to put down today. It looks like a pecking order to me but advice is welcome.

I would guess that it is a combination of feather pecking/plucking and hormones. Testosterone levels are high during periods of longer day light. If there were mites, they would be climbing all over you while you were processing the birds.
