Friendly breeds?

Can you wait a few months? I would be hesitant, too, due to the cold weather elsewhere, as well as reports of USPS live animal stoppages reported on BYC. Or maybe check out your local TSC, feed store, or hatchery to see what's available? If you go that route, you could always create a list of breeds folks have suggested here and try to match them up with what's available locally. Choosing breeds to get can be overwhelming, so this might make it easier with fewer options.
And that is why you need LOTS!!

I was wondering if I could get more chickens so it’s not so lonely with the four hens I have. Can’t decide on which breeds to get. Does anybody recommend any friendly breeds that are good egg layers? We already have 4 buff orpigtons. Any suggestions would
Speckled Sussex are friendly and dual purpose.

Mine are all very friendly since hatching. Australorp, Orpington, speckled Sussex, Blue Laced Wyandotte and Cukoo Marian. The Columbian Wyandotte is friendly but won’t let you cuddle her. The bigger breeds are cuddly and fluffy.

My 3 Rhode Island Reds laid large eggs most of the year and were very friendly. My wife started calling me Elvis with the way the hens ran to see and would swat so I could pet them and pick them up and walk around with them. I told them they had a home with me as long as they lived, a fox took care of them over a year ago and I still think about them because they were so much fun to be around. Henrietta, when she wanted my attention would peck at my sweats, it was a lot of fun to just be with them. I am disabled so I always wear sweats since it is easy to live in them.

We don't have a lot of feed stores near me but I can try to see if they have the breeds that I want. Thank you!
Spring with nice temps is a better time to start with chicks. If you buy > 4 chicks they can go outside after approx 6 weeks. Depending on the weather and how nice the have developed a feather coat.

If you have a coop for 3 normal sized chickens, you can buy 6 small bantam chicks like Dutch. 😁

I have decided to big a bigger coop to the side. I have received 6 fertilized Rhode island eggs from a friend.
