hi i had 3 Plymouth rocks but 2 got killed so i am left with one lonely chicken and i heard that chickens can die from being lonely so do i need to get her a buddy? and if i do how long do i have?:idunno:oops:

Do you want more chickens? Chickens are flock animals, so they always feel best with a flock. Bringing in older birds can also bring in diseases that can make your existing hen sick so think very carefully before going that route. Your existing hen may get bullied by new adult members too. Adding chicks is always best, but I know not everyone wants to go that way.

Single chickens can be okay depending on the circumstances. The answer depends on what your plans are and if you want more chickens.

She should be fine, especially if you plan on moving or keeping the chicks somewhere she can see or hear them before too long.

When I was a kid we got down to one lonely RIR. She did fine for a few years before disappearing one day.

I once had a hen who was alone for almost two years and when I recaptured her she was hale and hardy. "Don't believe any thing that you hear and only half of what you see"..... Mark Twain.

What killed the other two chickens? If it was a predator I would worry more about making sure your other chicken is safe and protected before adding more friends.

How old is the chicken that is alive and how old are the chicks you are raising?
