every spring we have these 2 wild mallard ducks that swim and pretty much live in our ditch... do you think they will befriend or pekins this year and hang around with them??

As charming as it is, are you sure you want them to introduce your ducks to viruses, bacteria, and parasites your ducks' immune systems may not be prepared for?
i didn’t think about that... that’s a sad thing to think about. i was just wondering like if that happens or not?

We have a brook directly behind our house and have mallards nesting in the area every year. I keep 300 ft of water frontage mowed and weed whacked so we get to see everything going on out there. We are in northern Maine and our flock of 9, including 3 pekin, will free range in about a month when spring flooding goes down. The wild ducks nest somewhere across the brook but forage our backyard and occasionally we get to watch the males battle it out. Our ducks will run the mallards off every chance they get whether in the brook or on our back yard. It's funny to watch the wild ducks circle back and get what they were after anyways. I don't worry at all about our ducks catching anything from them. We have a pair of blue heron that frequent the brook and our little flock don't want anything to with those two...
