Hi and welcome to BYC. Y/Coop has given you some great links, but my nugget of advice would be to make it bigger than you think is necessary, as chicken maths will undoubtedly catch up with you at some point or other!

    All the best

Hi, I am new here. We just had a bantam chicken die this morning. She did not appear to act like her usual self yesterday, lethargic and vommited and today she was just trying to sleep this morning. She died shortly after that. We now have a speckled sussex just start acting lethargic today and almost seizing when she vomits. Her breast is soft and warm to the touch. What could be causing this!?

    Out to pasture
You want sufficient room in the coop - it may seem like they only spend nights there sleeping but, that is a time they have the opportunity to peck and bully others birds inside with them.
Rule of them is 4-5 sq. feet per bird in the coop (excluding roosts and nest boxes) and 10 sq.feet per bird in the outdoor run. You also have to take into account, andybad weather days which would keep birds inside and grumpy.

When chickens are crowded they tend to feather pluck, bully and worse.
