Frizzle bantam got moldy feed. Botulism?

I'm glad she's made it this far and was able to come home!

Yes, I've seen folks struggle and treat Wry Neck for quite a long time. What most do it seems it to keep pushing Vitamin E, B-Complex and a source of Selenium (usually egg, tuna or sunflower seeds).

Now. If you are treating with Corid right now, omit the B-Complex until treatment is done since excess B1(Thiamine) could be a contraindication. Then continue with the B-Complex because interestingly enough, B1 (Thiamine) is what's recommended to go along with the Vitamin E to help treat Wry Neck.
Go Figure...:idunno

I wish I had better answers for you.
The only other thing I've seen suggested is to also give Prednisone, which would come from your vet. You could talk with him about that treatment plan and see if he thinks it may be worth trying or not. Do some research on the risks/side effects of giving steroids to chickens.
Anyway, here's the protocol. You'll have to look at the menu on the left of the page and click on "Crookneck".

Keep us posted on how this little Sweetie is doing. She's still such a doll, I hope she gets better soon.

Thanks so much! I read this but forgot to respond. I did the Corid and started with vitamins 3 days ago and I’m seeing improvement! it’s been a slow process. But I guess in the scheme of things it’s only been two weeks or so. One of the things that helped is a surface with traction because her biggest issue is she can’t keep her head up and face plants and flops over on her back and can’t get back over. So I have to flip her back over many times a day. But she seems to be more steady. I have the durvent vitE and selenium paste. I believe it’s for goats. And liquid b vit. I draw up in a 1ml syringe and giving once daily. It’s a battle. She’s so feisty and gets mad at me. Because she has so much strength, energy and eats like crazy I think she will pull through! 057D8871-8A1B-4266-9709-72EBBD9116D3.jpeg

I see. Well, maybe that will work ok then.
Not sure how much you have to give to get to 400IU Vitamin E and keep the Selenium under 25mcg daily if using the goat paste.
Liquid B Complex is good to give, it is Complex and not just B12 right? Because you do want B1(Thiamine) to go with the E and Selenium.

Glad you figured out the traction. Hoping she continues to improve!

Thank you! I actually started giving poultry cell today I don’t think it has selenium in it so I gave eggs also. I noticed the last 2 days she is tearing up her right wing with her foot when she flips over. She topples over and uses that foot to try to turn and is making herself bleed. The only positive to that is that she’s full of energy and I will say since her injury she doesn’t seem to be eating at much. Little improvements. I see her stand for a little longer than Initially. I have vetrycin spray I’ll put on the wound. Thanks for the tips. I do think doing Corid first was the right idea. And now with the vitamins hopefully it’s all helping. I’ll post pics of her wing she’s looking rough because her poop initially was runny but it’s better now. Bath will come in the future 😖

Shes so sweet, her boo boo makes me hurt.
Just don't use any oint with Lidocaine (pain reliever) in it. Although it's safe for humans, it's not for our sweet chickens.
Keep up the great work. I'll be following your sweetness recovery.

Poor little thing.

Poultry Cell is good stuff and I like it for a quick uptake/boost for a droopy chick or stressed bird, but I would give her the individual vitamins. Look at your label, I believe per fluid ounce, Poultry Cell would only deliver 50IU Vitamin E. Your target is 400UI Vitamin E.
So, I would give 400IU Vitamin E and 1/4 B-Complex tablet daily. Egg, tuna and sunflower seeds contain sufficient Selenium for the uptake of E.

Walmart, CVS, etc. all carry Vitamin E and B-Complex in the vitamin aisle.

Vetericyn is good to spray on her wound. Can her nails be trimmed or filed to blunt them? Perhaps, putting a bit of tape or a bandaid over the nails can help keep them from digging in as well.

Thanks I didn’t see that on the poultry cell so thanks for the help. I’m afraid trimming the nails will make them more sharp, I’m seeing improvement so hopefully the wing scratches will stop. But I don’t want to do anything to her feet that night impair getting traction. Great tips and I’m getting a little discouraged because it feels like it’s been taking forever. Then I’ll have to separate her until her wing heals. Luckily I got a pair or bantam Faverolles I may try to add her with in the future. Going to give more vit e asap!
