hi, this frizzle rooster is supposedly a pure silkie but it has a single comb 🤔 Is this possible?
On another note, any guess on gender?

Absolutely a cross. That one also doesn't have feathers on its feet, albeit one toe. It's looking like it'll be a satin frizzle.

That said, if you hatched out a dozen that were vaulted, bearded, five toes, and by all accounts a perfect silkie, then got one like this, one of the parents were a cross a couple of generations ago and is expressing a straight comb, etc., every so often. We breed silkies so if I saw one like that hatch out, first I'd be surprised, but then I'd sell the hen as "pet quality."

You could still have a beautiful silkie mix there, so don't be discouraged if just having pretty birds is your goal.

It's only if you want to breed him/her that it would become a consideration...do you want to continue to breed pet quality chicks?

I was hoping to have a pen for selling fertile eggs. I do however have a pen for mixed hens that I just like. I’m not sure a silkie cross would do well in there though. It’s full of large breads like Brahma, barred rock and even brown isa and Wyandotte.

Otherwise the aim is to have one pen for light Brahma and selling fertile eggs and day old chicks and to have another to do the same but with silkies :)
