Hey guys --

Has anyone here ever had frizzled araucanas? On Sunday I was given a trio of bantam araucanas (all are bilaterally tufted and rumpless) from a guy who has a lot of success showing both LF and bantam araucanas. He has national champs in both sizes. Anyway, he GAVE me these birds so I wasn't about to ask him very probing questions about them.

They are very very cute. The cockerel, he told me, is a golden duckwing. One pullet he just called golden, and the other pullet is a blue splash. The splash bird is slightly frizzled, so that she has a bustle (a poof of feathers) just where her rump would be, and a bit of fluffiness on her back.

Anyway, I'd love to hear if anyone here has had frizzled araucanas. I know that frizzling can pop up in just about any breed, I'm just curious! And yes, I'll post pics -- but probably not til this weekend!

edited for spelling!

I've never heard of a frizzled araucana. I'd guess it's either a defect or poor nutrition.

I doubt it's poor nutrition in this case, but I'm sure it must be considered a defect in terms of showing. It sure is cute, though!
