Frizzled Silver Pencilled Plymouth Rock Bantams?

My opinion is, is that they are not frizzle. They look really dry feathered to me. If it is not that it is most likely just poor feather quality, but not frizzled.

I bet when you breed them together you will get no true frizzles, just smooth feathered.

That s my take at least. Good luck with them. If you are just wanting some pet chickens I don't see a problem in breeding them to one another.

What happens when you breed 2 frizzles together? From what you said, it sound like it is a bad thing. Please inform. If I can get another pair of non frizzled Silver Pencilled Rocks would it be okay to breed that roo with my hen? What would be the best way to breed them? This is new for me so all help and info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. Papa Mel
Pictures were posted yesterday under the heading of Frizzled Silver Pencilled Plymouth Rocks. I still am not allowed to post as a "new egg". I sent Clint pics via email and he posted for me last night.

I don't have a ton of experience with Frizzles, but there is a lethal gene involved, and I believe I've read that you should never breed two frizzles together because of that - Frizzle peeps, correct me if I'm wrong, and maybe an explanation as to why for Mel.

I still suspect some sort of medical issue; these birds do not look good in the eyes to me; appears their lids are swollen. I dunno.....it's odd to be sure. I'm going to contact a friend who has a ton of poultry medical information...maybe she can find something. I don't mean to sound like a wet blanket or anything - I hope I'm wrong!

Could be a malfunctioning of the preen gland, but since there are several birds with it I think it is frizziling.

If they are frizzles you don't want to breed them together. Breeding 2 frizzles together you get frazzles. Frazzles have very poor feather quality and are brittle, so they break easily. From what I'm aware, they don't live long either.

They don't look frizzled

But I suppose you wouldnt know for sure until you bred them.

breeding an impure frizzle to an impure frizzle = 50% impure frizzles, 25% non frizzles, 25% pure frizzles(frazzles)

Good to know, thanks for posting it.
