Then there is hope for my Mr. Curly...I think he's a double and he's naked!

Yes Mrs Evans that is a photo from about 6-8 weeks and then NOW. Velvet is so sweet and docile and bless his heart 'low man on the totem pole' but with the younger flock that has now merged I am hoping the Velvet will move up in ranks. He is a sweety.

What are the down sides to a Frizzle (if there are any)

Are their eggs small? Do they stop laying during the winter? Do they get along with other chickens well?

HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH....
Oh. Never mind.
Keep in mind that my only experience is with Cochin Frizzles. All of these relate to them.
Downsides:
They sometimes need supplemental heat if it's really cold (they have about 50% of the normal number of feathers)
A cochin frizzle has feathered feet, which can lead to frostbite if there is snow on the ground.
The genetics require a little bit of thought, but not much. Like, if you buy hatching eggs, not all are going to be perfect Ff frizzles. Or FF+rm, or whatever.
Depending on the weather, the quality of curl is different. Notice that my boy has sad, limp feathers in my earlier post. This is because it was slightly rainy and cloudy. You should see him wet!
People look at your beautiful birds and say " Kill that ugly thing!!"

Upsides:
They are cute and cuddly and beautiful and when you take them to a show, they always have a crowd around their cages.
They go broody a lot, so when you get lots more, you just say,"What? I didn't do it!"

They are fairly good layers, and the yolks are the same size as in a large egg, so you get more of the good stuff!
They make great showmanship birds, if you're in 4-H or FFA.

Forgot to say... NO DOUBLE DOSE! I know they have an excellent curl on them... but still...

I'm sorry! Do you want me to remove a pic?

my newest addition to my flock. not sure yet on gender but thinking it will be a cockerel from the way it has been so vocal.

it's a frizzled silkie cross

my kitty doesn't even bother to eat them when i've shown her them so i have no fear of her wanting one when they are older.

Curly Joe, a cochin x silkie. got the 5 toes but he's curled right down to those too!

down side to frizzles, don't usually fly so can be easily caught by predators. don't breed a frizzled to another frizzled or you have very brittle feathers.

i never heard if you could breed a frizzled to one that is a carrier of the gene but not showing. anyone know that answer?
