Yeah, they have been eating dirt. All their feed and a couple heads of cabbage, brocolli, and some lettuce today (so far). As for playing tug of war with the frog, they would have, but Peeps was too fast for the rest of them. The minute she found the frog she took off running.....gobbling the frog as she went. They tried to catch her, but were unsuccessful. She's a spry little thing. Smallest of the bunch, lays the biggest eggs, and runs like heck!~
Going to get some chicken scratch and see if that helps some. Maybe some sunflower seeds as well. They just seem so much more hungry. Eating me out of house and home! And yet when they are out free range they are more interested in the pond and mating than the food that is available (not surprising I guess!)
I don't like to leave them out free ranging without being out there with them, but may have to do some limited time out with me in the house. Or set up a new pen in another area where there is grass etc to forage in.
Gave them some Lacinato Kale yesterday and they initially turned their noses (bills) up at it, but by the end of the day it was gone with the head of cabbage.
Have some quinoa that I am fixing for us, maybe some of that (cooked) and some smashed potatoes are in order. Anyone ever given them quinoa?
