Interesting thread! A few weeks ago I decided to try some shipped eggs to put under my broodies. I live in Northern Ca. and placed four orders from 4 different farms, all east coast-ish except one. All were intact upon receipt.
(BTW I was going to try some in my incubator, a LG, but found that the temp fluctuation in the room I set up was too much for the incubator to safely regulate. All eggs went under broodies)
1. 15 eggs from Oregon - 4 hatched, one may not make it. Appeared to have received a several that were infertile, no start of veining at all.
2. 8 Serama eggs from LA - 5 hatched!, 3 alive. Very pleasant surprise given that they are supposed to be sensitive.
3. 24 eggs, one farm, 4 breeds, LA. 1 egg still alive, due to hatch next week. Some appeared to be duds; most died before end of week one.
4. 19 eggs, same breed, same farm. 6 still alive, due to hatch in 7 days.
5. 12 eggs, 2 breeds, LA. All duds, didn't make it past week one.
Being an optimist, I am going to try another round of serama eggs from another farm in TX, under a broody. Due to arrive this week, broody awaiting. Fingers crossed...
