Hello! It’s been so long I guess I count as a new member again… And I don’t recall doing this the first time…. Or how I found BYC in the first place 🤔

So, I first got chickens around 2003. Raised them twice; first time they stayed with my significant other of the time, and the second time a raccoon came in and decimated my tiny flock.

Fast forward to Covid times. My husband and second child are both allergic to chicken egg whites but are fine with duck eggs. Duck eggs around here usually went from $9-$15 a dozen when you could find them. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I decided to make it my “8th grade project” (I teach middle school) to get ducks. We ordered 5. One blue Indian runner (Shower), one Cayuga (Void), one Rouen (Fenna), one Khaki Campbell (Brownstone), and one Welsh Harlequin (Sunny/Ray). And they’ve been happily living in the bottom part of our old chicken pen and run. (With the addition of some water to play in.)

We love how they seem to make the world calm down and help us be present. I also love how they introduce the boys to new foods (my second decided to try their dried meal worm snacks…. And now he steals them occasionally… he’s 8).

Other hobbies include raising our three boys (5, 8, & 11)(so lots of repairing), gardening, cooking, various forms of art, music, reading, and gaming.
