My wife and I have had ducks for the last 12 years and have really enjoyed them. Today we brought home our first 2 chicks, a pair of awkwardly adorable Barred Rock baby girls. I can tell already we're in for a remarkably different experience than with the ducks. The differences in personality between these two is remarkable. One is much more of an adventurer and the other much more inclined to just chill and cuddle. We're excited!

First I'll be looking at coop plans. We have a nicely fenced yard that has kept the ducks protected well for a year now so they'll likely roam. Also will be looking for those that could comment on a duck/chicken environment and the whole pecking order thing. We could keep them separate but would rather not.

BYC is a tremendous resource and I'm looking forward to digging in. Hello all! -Jason

There are some really good articles in the Learning Center on keeping chickens (and ducks) that may interest you. Coops plans, there are very many in the Coops section to give you ideas. Enjoy the site!

Hi Jason, cute chicks you have! I hope you enjoy them as much as you have the ducks.

Glad you joined us at Backyard chickens. I don't know much about ducks but, they love to make a mess in water and chickens don't like being wet. Out ranging that would not be a problem. Male ducks will sometimes try to breed female chickens. Their anatomy does not jive and they can severely injure of kill a chicken trying to breed her.

Any specific duck questions you have would be better answered on the "Duck thread." Just put that in the search box and it will pop up.

Hi Jason and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us. All the best with your new chicks.
