Some photos of all the babies and big girls. They love the cat tunnel. Also, one of my two RIR pullets lays by the chicks daily. I want to say it is Cleopatra. Cinnamon likes to peck at you as a greeting. Not a fan of that. She is the other RIR pullet.

I need to go to Tractor Supply this week. I want to get a small rake and some bedding for the coop area. I was thinking straw? What is good for a dirt area?

If this area will stay dry, straw is ok but it mats and gets moldy easily when wet. Grass hay, (Bermuda grass hay), is fluffy and lighter and doesn't absorb water so it's a better choice for areas exposed to the elements. Pine mulch/chips is an excellent litter to use, I switched over from grass hay to the chips several years ago and will never go back!

The enclosure they are in is what the yard is like over there. Tree shade, pine needles, leaves, dirt. It doesn't get muddy muddy. Just gets wet. Like normal wet dirt type stuff.

Are pine chips cost efficient too? I want to change out the stuff every month or so (hopefully less but chickens poop like crazy) and not once a week like I did with the brooder shavings. They are going to have a run and coop style all in one until we can build a coop with wood. Like one half of the enclosure will be the coop half and other half the run. They already made them a dust bath corner too. The older pullets at least.
