Living in suburbia land of manicure lawns, I once got a unsigned letter about all the dandelions in my lawn. The letter claimed I was ruining every lawn on my block. Because the letter was unsigned I didn't care or do anything about it. Now that I have chickens they go crazy for them ( I don't use anything on lawn). I go over my lawn every couple of days picking them. Dandelions went from weed to crop for me.

I totally agree. In fact just today in the "Things you never said before you had chickens" thread I wrote " Oh look, yummy dandelions."

Wow, you've got to feel sorry for some people. Fancy getting so worked up over grass that you wrote that note?

Weeds and chcikens go hand in hand. I'm on 2.5 acres with lots of garden so lots of weeds. Feeding the chickens gives me a great incentive to get out every day and pick some of them.

I, uh, transplant dandelions from my lawn...into my garden...[IMG] I think they make a very tasty green but less bothers them then kale, swiss chard, etc. Which I also grow, but they have to live next to the dandelions. I always get a nice crop of salad or cooking greens this way. My next plan is to get some purslane established in my garden.
