I just noticed today that a couple of my "chicas" appear to have "freezer burn" on the some of the tips of their combs. We are in Minnesota and a week ago our temps went down to -26f....now I see this. Would putting vaseline on the tips help with the healing? I've never had this happen before, although I've only had chickens for about 5 years. These are newbies from last spring...
Thank you for any assistance!

Yes Vaseline will work to keep the frost off the combs. Although the frost bitten part will eventually fall off.

(I had some vaseline on my hand one day and couldn't feel the frost.) It works! 🥰

No, I would not put anything on the combs, since the vaseline can also freeze, causing more damage. I usually leave the combs alone, don not massage or handle them, and they will heal eventually. Do you have any pictures of the frostbite?
