Frost bite

He's probably going to lose the toes.

My chick Scout was hatched under similar circumstances....an October hatch, unseasonably warm weather in the upper sixties, low seventies, and with two days we were at sub zero temps. Scout got his feet wet at the waterer, and they froze. Poor little mite! His story is too long to retype and post here, and I see you’ve been given a link to the article about it. But he did lose use of his toes. But nothing stopped him - he flew up and down to and from the roost, bred the ladies, scratched in the dirt, and could outrun me. I don’t know if anything I did for him made the difference or if it was just his grit and determination but he thrived. He did love his “hot tub”

Thanks @Blooie :hugs

The swollen healthy areas above the black shriveled areas is where the toes will eventually fall off. Your chicken should do okay. I would probably put some betadine on the toes just to prevent infection. It can take several weeks for the toes to fall off. I try to prevent water spills in my coop when there is freezing weather. It can be hard to prevent them from walking through water outside, but I also make sure they don’t try to roost on my metal garbage cans inside the coop.
