It got down to 2 Degrees F last night, and my rooster got frostbite (I don't heat the coop). I don't think it is too bad, but I have no experience with this so I don't really have anything to compare severeness to, besides pictures on the internet. What do you guys think? :idunno

Also, I read that putting Vaseline on the comb and wattle can help prevent frostbite, but not to put it on an already frostbit comb because it could break off and cause more damage, but that is just if it is pretty severe, right?

What are your guys' ways for preventing frostbite? It is supposed to get really cold again, so this time I want to be prepared :yesss:

The pictures might be a little weird because I had trouble uploading them. There should be two there...

Thanks!

Oh that doesn’t look bad at all. Put some vitamin E oil on it to premote healing.
You should heat the coop. The chickens begin to suffer around twenty degrees. I recommend prima heat lamps. They have a protective covering to help prevent fires. I use them and there has been zero suggestion of fire.
Also Vaseline on their combs at night will help.
Good luck!

I think his frostbite is growing... The last 5 tips/humps that are more connected has gotten darker. At the front of those 5, at the bottom of the "V" to almost the bottom of the back of his comb there is frostbite all the way across. It isn't black, but it is dark colored... I can get another picture if needed...
