During the frigid temps, as you can see frostbite, he was fine and feisty..yesterday he was dirty from his dust bath. Today I went in run, he passed away. I know the affected areas we’re starting to dry up. There was a very light tinting of blood on his neck feathers and near wattles. Would the hens have harmed him? would he have gotten an infection? I guess they pecked at him further after he died. I have no clue. Now I have eggs on my counter..from this week. How do I know if fertile? Is it too early, should I but an incubator?

Could he have nit been eating and drinking enough because of the pain of the frostbite? Did he seem lethargic or dehydrated? Very sorry for your loss.
Not at all.. I popped in and out of run few times a day..drank from water spigot, eating.. running around..trying to get on the hens.. does frostbite cause infection? I was told to leave it.. wattles looked like scabbing over..

Most cases of comb and wattle frostbite will heal without treatment. Others may peck at frostbitten tissue, and they may also cause it to bleed when they hit it on feeders or waterers. A necropsy by the state vet might tell you if something else was wrong.

My neighbor said..I probably should put on triple anti biotic cream…next time I’ll crate and bring in..I feel so badly. I have some eggs on the counter from this week..picking up an incubator from my friend.. maybe Bob will live on❤️

I'm so sorry for your loss. You can gather eggs for 10 days to a couple weeks even if they are stored at a stable temperature. As long as he was with the hens up until this point, the girls may keep laying fertile eggs. You would have to set them (in the incubator) and candle at about 4-7 days to check for any development. I say go for it, it's definitely worth a shot to keep your man Bob's legacy going. ❤️

I went in run this morning..there was little splatters of blood all over, on coop, rafters, tarps.. I’m thinking the hens did him in. One of the buffs have blood on feathers down near tail.. so upset with myself, I could’ve prevented this by crating him in house😭

Please, try not to beat yourself up about it. I do feel like that's kind of a pretty freak thing, and there's no way that you could have known that was going to happen. (((Hugs)))
