We here in Maryland a couple weeks ago had some very cold days teens and single digits a couple nights. I tarped the ladies run trying to keep breeze off them. But our RIR rooster got frost bite on his comb I kept vasoline on it but didn't seem to help now reg neosporine. They do have food in the coop but no water it's dry and dusty inside. I just wanted some advice and opinions on it. Pics from a week ago and black color from today. Thank you in advance.

He is most likely going to have a more rounded off comb, especially toward the back, in the future when it heals. The points will mostly fall off. Nothing else needs to be done. I usually have water and food inside and outside the coop in the winter. It is hard to completely prevent frostbite when temps are near zero. I make sure to have some end to end high up ventilation inside the coop to let moisture escape. I don’t recommend using vaseline or any ointments or creams in freezing weather on combs, since those may also freeze. There is a lot of mixed info about that on poultry sites, but I prefer not to use them.

Vaseline was the mistake. When you use Petroleum Jelly, or Vaseline on combs, or wattles in freezing weather, you're adding moisture to the appendages, which provides frostbite an access point.
