I don't want to keep him in to long to the point were he looses his cold hardiness. I can control the temperature in that room as much as I like if that helps at all.
You could set the room temperature to be just above freezing (maybe 33 to 35 degrees Fahrenheit.)
That would be about as cold as you can get while still being sure he's safe from frostbite, and has liquid water to drink.
