frostbite

After this past cold spell here in MA, I have noticed some frostbite on my rooster's comb. Is there anything I can do to prevent it from getting worse?? Thanks!

You can put bag balm, diaper cream, vaseline, etc. on them. Keep an eye on it.

The problem with frostbite is once the damage is done the area is more susceptible to further freezing, and it may look like the first freezing is done but as the damaged cells start dying off you start to see the full extent of the damage.

So once the initial damage is done the only thing you can do to prevent further damage is get the bird out of the below freezing temperatures.

I would recommend gently rubbing Neosporin on the effected area to help the healing process and keep an eye out for signs of infection.
