One of my chickens was attacked while I was at work. She went missing for 4 days and returned with no feathers on her whole butt and tail! She seemed to get some frostbite so I brought her in for a week, vaselined it and her new feathers are growing back. Our weather is in the 50's so I put her back out as she was miserable. Now we are predicted to get snow and temps during the night of 20 degrees. What should I do with her? I live in Greenville SC. KM

She should be fine. Chickens are tough as an old boot. If you are worried about her bare butt then I would perhaps make a saddle/coat for her out of fleece to cover her until she re-grows some cover. There are some no-sew patterns floating around here for saddles. I used them and they work well. The toughest part is getting the fit right on the first try. Chickens are smaller than they look.

Good luck.
