how do you know if your egg has froze if it hasnt cracked yet. my coup is heated but they lay elsewhere, like outside under the coup in the straw

my coup is on stilts till we build a walk in barn this year:D

If they have been outside for quite a while and it is below freezing then they are probably frozen. No real way to tell unless you crack them open. They are still good to eat, just not incubate.

how long once its laid would it take to freeze if its nestled in a sheltered straw hideaway i wonder:/

I have not tried this but I would think that you would be able to tell in a very similar way that you can tell if an egg is hard boiled. Lay it on its side on a flat surface and try to spin it like a top. If it spins then it is frozen or hard boiled and if it does not then it is still thawed or raw inside.
